GRAHAM – Baird & ANCHOR Insight Visit

A group of AGS pupils had the opportunity to visit the Graham Construction project at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Monday the 13th of December, as an Insight visit into the construction industry.

They had a site visit of both the Baird Family Hospital & The Anchor Centre sites currently under construction and the biggest project of its kind currently underway in Scotland.

Two Graduate apprentices who left school to start their apprenticeships also highlighted the various key skills needed as well as routes into this industry the three main ones that they are involved in being:

  • Foundation Apprenticeships
  • Modern Apprenticeships
  • Graduate Apprenticeships

It was a very worthwhile visit with the different routes into the industry very well highlighted as well as highlighting construction as a lucrative opportunity should they choose to enter this line of employment in the future.

Many thanks to Graham Construction for supporting the visit!

Build Your Future S2 Event

AGS took part in the Build Your Future construction challenge for schools in the North East.

The aim of the challenge is to raise the profile of the construction industry to S2 pupils, parents, and teachers, and to highlight the range of exciting and rewarding career opportunities there are out there.  The challenge has been a huge success over the past couple of years and feedback has shown that pupils and teachers have come away with a better understanding of what a career in construction looks like, and it will hopefully be a bit of inspiration to pursue a career in construction in the future.

The 10 S2 pupils selected form the Balfour Beatty challenge took part in 3 tasks during P5&6 working with the following:

Safety Scotland – Environmental Challenge Task

KR Group – Retrofitting task

RGU – Scott Sutherland School of Architecture

SDS & NPFS – Foundation Apprenticeships session for parents and carer

Skills Development Scotland and National Parents Forum for Scotland are arranging a session on Foundation Apprenticeships for parents and carers on Tuesday 14th December from 7pm-8pm.

This session gives the opportunity to find out about Foundation Apprenticeships including who they’re for, how they work and their benefits. During this one hour session we’ll talk through the value and equivalency of the qualification in terms of SCQF levels and UCAS points. We’ll also share pupil journeys and how Foundation Apprenticeships helped them progress onto a job such as a Modern or Graduate Apprenticeship, college or university. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
