Cricket
Aberdeen Grammar School runs cricket teams at Junior, 1st to 3rd and Senior. 4th to 6th year stages.
The Seniors 1st XI have an intensive period of four games in app. ten days at the start of the summer term. School House matches are also arranged at the end of the spring/start of the summer terms at Field.
Winter training and practice takes place in the Games Hall every Monday. School staff are assisted by Richard Ferro and Ian Johnston from AGS FPs Cricket. Club. who come along to help with coaching.
In addition, a bequest to the FPs from the late Ken Peters has set aside a sum of money to help with youth development in school, in conjunction with the FP club. To this end we have had Scottish Intentional cricketer Jan Stander in to do some specialist instruction and training on each of the three disciplines in the game.
The Ken Peters bequest also made provision for a trophy to be awarded to the pupil who has made the most significant contribution to school cricket during the season.
The first winner in season 20111 was Andy Milne.
Andy was 1st XI captain last year. He performed well in matches and carried out captaincy duties on an off the field in a manner that brought credit to both himself and the school. He has gone on to play Grades cricket for the FPs, which is a natural progression for the many talented cricketers here in school. Current pupils David Blues and Jeston De Costa have also done well in adult senior cricket in the city. as have many FPs who now represent the club following on from their cricketing education here in school.
