The Art and Design Department at Aberdeen Grammar school is located on the top floor of the main building, housing an extensive open plan arrangement consisting of four classrooms, one of which is a comprehensive printmaking room, plus a computer suite and various workshop areas. There is also a separate designated pottery classroom with two kilns on the ground floor.
The smaller workshop areas consist of a jewellery work-space, dressmaking work-space and dark room facility for chemical photography development.
With housing such a variety of Art & Design equipment, the techniques which are now well established in the curriculum are; water-colour and acrylic painting and various drawing and collage techniques, enameling and jewellery construction, clay, plaster, papier-mache and plasticine model making , various printmaking techniques including dry point etching, lino and poly board reductive printing, machine sewing, felting and textile construction techniques.
