S2 Design & Manufacture
During the course S2 pupils will continue to develop an understanding of many aspects of Design introduced in the S1 course, including; the design process, analysing the brief, Design Factors, specifications, idea generation techniques & presentation techniques as well as materials & manufacture.
The Ideas that are explored in the folio will lead pupils into the manufacturing stage.
Pupils will gain Knowledge & Understanding of:
- different material; wood, metal, plastic
- properties & uses of these materials
- aspects of the design process
- factors that influence design
and developed Practical skills in:
- the correct and safe use of hand & machine tools
- working accurately
- using different design techniques
- Working safely in a workshop environment
The projects currently undertaken in S2 are:
- an aluminium and plastic desk tidy
- a wooden storage unit
- Product evaluation
